Keeping your car running smoothly is completely dependent on regular servicing and maintenance. Not only will this increase the lifespan of your car, but it will also reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns or costly mechanical problems. To help you keep your car in good condition, here are some tips from our towing experts.
Change your oil regularly
Your oil should be changed every 6 months or every 8,000km, whatever comes first. An oil change is a big part of regular servicing and is essential to the health of your car. Over time engine oil becomes less and less effective at lubricating the engine and absorbing heat. That’s why it’s so important to keep your car up to date with its servicing.
Check your tyre pressure monthly
Underinflated tyres not only risk your safety on the road, they also wear out far faster than properly inflated ones. Underinflated tyres can also result in more fuel usage. It is essential that you check the tyre pressure of all your tyres once a month. Make sure you fill your tyres to the PSI measurement recommended by your car’s manufacturer and no more, as overinflated tyres will increase your risk of a tyre blowout.
Rotate your tyres
Different tyres wear out at different rates. In most cases your front tyres will wear a lot faster than your back wheels, with the left front tyre being the most at risk. Your front two tyres should be placed at the back and then the left and right tyre switched, and your previous back tyres should then be places at the front. You can do this yourself or ask your mechanics to do this as part of your service.
