A black spot is a place where road traffic accidents are concentrated. To combat these black spots the Australian Government started The Black Spot Program in order to locate and improve the conditions of historically dangerous roads. If you are a Gold Coast driver, then here are some black spot areas to be cautious of.
Intersection of Palm Beach Avenue and Tahiti Avenue
This intersection has been listed as dangerous by the federal government and is earmarked for $368,000 in upgrades. This will involve the installation of a splitter kerb, bicycle awareness markings adjustment of the roundabouts centre island and improved footpaths.
Australia Avenue and Surf Parade, Broadbeach
This four-way intersection has poor visibility and is no stranger to car collisions. Governing bodies have suggested that the intersection needs increased visibility as well as improved signage and kerb build outs to improve pedestrian crossing.
Cottesloe Drive and University Drive, Robina
Dense with traffic from the surrounding university, schools and other infrastructure, this roundabout is very dangerous. It has been recommended that the roundabout is replaced with traffic lights and is given improved line marking and street lighting.
Beaudesert-Nerang Road, Mount Nathan
This sub-rural road is quite narrow and has minimal visibility both at night and in wet weather conditions. It has been suggested that the road should be widened further, and more guard rail placed around shoulders.
